Nearly 150 graduate students to compete at April 12 showcase

Nearly 150 graduate students from 43 different fields of study will compete at the 2013 Graduate Student Day, which will be held on campus this Friday, April 12. Coinciding with Graduate Student Appreciation Week (April 8-12) and the announcement of the 2012-2013 SPARC Graduate Fellowship recipients, the event is the University of South Carolina’s most comprehensive showcase of graduate scholarly and creative work.

Students will compete in four formats, all of which are designed to be presented in a way so as to be understandable to a generalist: oral research, poster, creative and 3-minute thesis/dissertation speech (3MTD). The 3MDT is a new category for this year's Graduate Student Day competition which pushes students to distill the findings and significance of their dissertation or thesis into a 3-minute talk.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, which will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. in the Russell House Ballroom. The ceremony will also feature the unveiling of university-wide fellowships and awards from The Graduate School, the Center for Teaching Excellence, and the Office of the Vice President for Research.

The public is invited.
