The Graduate School is coming to a town near you

Prospective students in the region will have an opportunity to meet with a recruiter from the University of South Carolina this fall, thanks to a new recruitment initiative led by The Graduate School.

“This is the first time The Graduate School has worked with USC departments to ensure the university is adequately and appropriately represented in the state and the region,” said Wright Culpepper, the school’s assistant director of recruiting. Through November, Culpepper will visit about 20 recruiting events and universities in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. These visits will be in addition to the more than a dozen graduate fairs attended by USC schools, colleges and departments.

“I’m excited to be the face of the university at many of these events. Academic departments are the best advocates for their respective programs, but it can be prohibitively expensive for them to attend multiple recruiting fairs,” he said. The centralized recruiting effort is important, then, because it allows the university to meet more prospective graduate students face-to-face.

“I see my role as being a conversation starter between prospective graduate students and the university. If I can direct prospective students to particular programs and provide them with a basic knowledge of funding and academic opportunities at USC, then I will consider my efforts a success,” he said.
