Seeking a Representative for the CSGS 2015 Master's Thesis Award

The Graduate School is seeking a representative from USC for the Humanities and Fine Arts category of the CSGS 2015 master’s thesis awards. Disciplines that are eligible for this award include (but are not limited to) the following: History, Classics, Comparative Literature, Linguistics, Speech, American Studies, Archeology, Art, Music, Philosophy, Theology, Religion, Theater, Language, Literature, and Architecture.

Theses will be evaluated, as appropriate, on the basis of originality, clarity of style and presentation, scholarship, research methodology, and contributions to the field or discipline. The winner will be nominated on behalf of The Graduate School for the CSGS master’s thesis award.

If selected as the winner by CSGS the council will provide $1,000 plus travel expenses for the awardees to attend the 2015 CSGS meeting in New Orleans, LA where the award will be presented. The Graduate School will hold its traditional outstanding thesis award competition in the spring and the winners of that competition will be announced at grad student day.

Eligibility: A student or graduate must have completed their thesis as partial fulfillment of their master’s degree requirements sometime between fall 2012 and summer 2014.

Required materials:         

  • Nomination form
  • Web link to a thesis or an electronic copy submitted by email or CD
  • Letter of endorsement from graduate director
  • Letter from major professor evaluating the significance and quality of the nominee’s thesis.
  • An abstract of the thesis (1-2 pages, double-spaced), prepared by the nominee
  • A brief resume or CV of the nominee (1-2 pages)
