Policy on Graduate Assistants, Summer Enrollment FICA & Fringe
A graduate assistant is a student enrolled in the Graduate School who assists, under faculty supervision, in the conduct of the University’s total education program by providing teaching, research or other services. In addition to fulfilling functions that would otherwise be performed by regular faculty and staff members, graduate assistants also receive valuable practical experience as they prepare for future teaching, research, or administrative responsibilities. Graduate Assistantship Opportunities
Many graduate programs offer Graduate Assistantships to new or continuing graduate students. To inquire about Graduate Assistantships offered by your program, please contact the program contact from your program identified on our programs offered page.

Graduate Assistantships may also be offered by departments outside your program. If you have been admitted to, or are currently enrolled at USC and would like to search for graduate assistantships, many assistantships at USC are advertised through the USC Career Center. If you are an academic department and would like to post a new Graduate Assistantship opportunity or change a current opportunity listed, you should contact the USC Career Center.
Teaching and Instructional Assistants (TA/IA) Workshop
This workshop is required for all (domestic and international) graduate students who will serve as instructional/teaching assistants. Graduate students must complete this training before they can be appointed as instructional/teaching assistants. MORE INFO
International Teaching Assistant (ITA) Workshop and Assessment
In addition to participation in the TA/IA workshop, all international graduate students who anticipate serving as teaching/instructional assistants must attend the workshop and receive a satisfactory evaluation of their oral English skills to be eligible for appointment as a teaching/instructional assistant.
