Degree Requirements
As a graduate student at the University of South Carolina, there are a number of responsibilities, in addition to passing your classes! This page has been developed to give you access to the regulations and requirements of reaching your goal: a graduate degree. The Graduate School requires that you complete a Program of Study, in addition to other steps that must be taken as part of your degree program. We have tried to provide as much information as possible regarding standards and requirements that are enforced campus-wide. Your academic unit may require you to complete additional requirements before being allowed to graduate. Please be sure to contact them. It is your responsibility to see that all requirements are met. To help you better visualize the process in which you need to take part in we have provided two distinct tracks/charts on progress to graduation.
Every graduate student admitted to a degree program is entitled to an advisor. In many programs the preliminary advisor is the director of graduate studies for the academic unit concerned. Graduate students who have not been assigned an advisor should consult their directors of graduate studies for information on advisement procedures. Students are urged to consult their advisors on a regular basis.
