TA Training

Instructional or Teaching Assistants (IA/TA)

Graduate students who will be newly appointed Teaching or Instructional Assistants (GTAs / GIAs) during the upcoming academic year are required to participate in the TA Training Program, which consists of two parts: (1) TA Orientation prior to the start of the semester, and (2) a semester-long course on teaching assistant development, GRAD 701 (or approved departmental equivalent).

International Teaching Assistants

In addition to participation in the TA Training Program, all international graduate students who anticipate serving as teaching/instructional assistants must attend a training workshop and receive a satisfactory evaluation of their oral English skills to be eligible for appointment as a teaching/instructional assistant.

Trained TA/IA Database

Listed in our database are the students who have fulfilled the above requirements to be graduate teaching or instructional assistants, including completion of the International Teaching Assistant assessment. International students will be listed twice, for fulfilling both the TA Training Program (student’s name is followed by “TA/IA”) and for satisfactory completion of the ITA assessment (student’s name is followed by “ITA”).

Only students who are listed in this database may be hired as Teaching or Instructional Assistants on this campus. We have provided a searchable database, which can be queried by Department or by the last name of the student.
