GTA/GIA Training

Graduate Teaching or Instructional Assistants (GTA/GIA)

Graduate students who will be newly appointed Teaching or Instructional Assistants (GTAs / GIAs) during the upcoming academic year are required to participate in the GTA/GIA Training Program, which consists of two parts: (1) GTA/GIA Orientation prior to the start of the semester, and (2) a semester-long course on teaching and instructional assistant development, GRAD 701 (or approved departmental equivalent).

International Teaching Assistants (ITA)

In addition to participation in the GTA/GIA Training Program, all international graduate students who anticipate serving as teaching or instructional assistants must attend a training workshop and receive a satisfactory evaluation of their oral English skills to be eligible for appointment as a graduate teaching or instructional assistant.
